Peace Vigil and Peace Talk for Quaker Week

Quaker Vigil outside the Assembly Rooms
12.30pm. After regular Meeting for Worship we invite all residents to join us for a 20 minute silence at the Chichester landmark to pray for peace in the trouble spots of the world

Chichester’s remarkable Quaker Margery Wilkinson: History Walk and Talk.
1pm to 2pm. From the Assembly Rooms follow us along North Street for a quick history of the Quakers and their role in the history of the city ending at the former house of Margery, one of the city’s first Quakers in the 17th Century, jailed for her beliefs but never bending. A blue plaque to mark her bravery now adorns her former house.

The Quakers and Peace: Talk and Discussion
2pm to 3pm. Why is peace so central to Quaker faith and what does it mean in practice? Short talk about Quakerism including the Peace Testimony and other historical foundations of the faith. Find out what Quakers do (and do not) stand for. A discussion and questions taken about the faith.

Global World Quaker Day: Live link around the world for peace.
3pm to 4pm: Join Quakers on a live link around the world joining thousands of people gathering under the banner Let Peace Be Among Us reaching across many time zones from the Americas to Aotearoa/New Zealand. Each hour of worship will be dedicated to a part of the world where prayers for peace are particularly needed – you’re welcome to join for as little or as long as you’d like.
